Residents can meet others who are wanting to live their best life possible by attaining a healthy weight. This supportive group meets weekly and a group leader tackles real life challenges and topics to arm members with tools to make good choices about food. Members learn about nutrition, filling food, journaling and other proven weight loss methods. Weigh-ins begins weekly at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the HFC Craft Room. This is just one of the many clubs and programs at Lake Ashton designed to enhance your life!

Lake Ashton residents have an active lifestyle. Active lifestyles need nutritional support to help fuel cardiovascular and strength related activities. Hmmm.... that's just about everything!
Skipping Breakfast: Experts agree, skipping breakfast just means you will be hungrier later which can make optimal performance difficult or pose problems to manage weight.
Not eating Before a Workout: Providing fuel allows for a better, more productive exercise session. Eat a combination of protein, fat, and carbs about 1.5 hours prior to working out.
Waiting Too Long After Exercising to Eat: Your body needs to replace fuel utilized during a workout and is most responsive to nutrients within 30 to 45 minutes after working out.
Replacing Meals with "Energy Bars and Drinks": If those items contain the right portion of protein, fat, carbs, and fiber, all is good. However, you need to read the labels to make sure you are not eating a pseudo candy bar.
Not Eating Enough Carbs: Carbs are essential to fuel the body. Good carbs don't make you gain weight unless you have trouble with portion control.
Not Consuming Enough Calories: You need enough calories to fuel your active lifestyle. If you are under-caloried, your body will hold onto fat weight for survival.
Believing Exercise Allows You to Eat as Much as You Want: You still need the right amount of nutrients and can easily exceed the calories you used to work out.
Not Drinking the Right Amount of Fluids: Dehydration is a serious problem. Especially in the heat and humidity of summer. Your performance and overall well being can suffer tremendously.
Jumping on the Latest Diet Craze: It's tempting but the formula never changes. Calories in and calories out and the right mix of nutrients are the magic formula.
Not Researching Supplements: The supplement industry is largely unregulated. Make sure you have researched the company and their products.

This weekend I decided to head out to the open waters and do a little deep sea fishing. It's only 90 minutes or less to either coast from Lake Ashton so the hardest decision was do I fish in the Gulf of Mexico or in the Atlantic Ocean? I decided to head over to Port Canaveral and try my luck. The captain and crew were very hospitable and by 8:30 am I was 25 miles off the east coast of Florida in a place known as Pelican Straight. After just a couple of minutes I landed the first catch of the day a Sea Bass. Over the next 5 hours an assortment of different species including, Bonita, Flounder, Mahi Mahi, Atlantic Shark, Grouper and Red Snapper all were introduced to the live well. So much fun in the sun! Florida Retirement Communities
I was up early today riding my bike around scenic Lake Ashton. Not only is riding a bike a great way to stay in shape but with the great weather and beautiful nature staying active outdoors in Central Florida is a great way to stay young. Lake Ashton has a biking, walking club to help you stay in shape with like minded adults. Of course there are many activities that does not require physical assertion. So exercise, play, relax or anything you want!
