This weekend I decided to head out to the open waters and do a little deep sea fishing. It's only 90 minutes or less to either coast from Lake Ashton so the hardest decision was do I fish in the Gulf of Mexico or in the Atlantic Ocean? I decided to head over to Port Canaveral and try my luck. The captain and crew were very hospitable and by 8:30 am I was 25 miles off the east coast of Florida in a place known as Pelican Straight. After just a couple of minutes I landed the first catch of the day a Sea Bass. Over the next 5 hours an assortment of different species including, Bonita, Flounder, Mahi Mahi, Atlantic Shark, Grouper and Red Snapper all were introduced to the live well. So much fun in the sun! When your looking for Florida retirement communities remember the great location Lake Ashton has.
