Florida Retirement Communites

Fall in Central Florida

What a great time of year to be in Florida. I watch the Weather Channel every morning and see many parts of the country already with their first snow or freeze. It's late October and I'm still wearing short pants with a t-shirt. I know many folks will be heading this way for winter but are really missing a special time of year here in Florida. The warm balmy nights with a tropical breeze, sun drenched days with high fluffy clouds, wow! This time of year with the coming holidays is a very special time of year. Don't wait to long to make your travel plans to beautiful Lake Ashton. Call today 1-866-525-3274 to make book your 3 day 2 night "Great Escape" visit. Hope to see you soon!

Florida Retirement Communities Wellness

Using the upper body Ergometer

One piece of equipment in the Health & Fitness Center is an upper body ergometer. It kind of looks like a bike but has no wheels; it uses water for resistance, and is very underused! If anyone has been through physical rehab for a shoulder injury, post hip or knee surgery, or after a cardiac event of some type, you most likely have used this type of machine. This machine is a great cardio and strength workout. You can adjust the height of the handles to target mid to high chest or shoulders. You adjust the level of water to provide a minimal to maximal resistance thereby choosing a higher level cardio or a higher level of strength. We recommend using this piece of equipment to mix up your cardio routine or another element of strength. You will get a great workout!

Florida Retirement Communities "Going Green"

By Sharon Makela

Lake Ashton's "Going Green" Tips of the Month

Light bulbs: The new CFL, energy saving light bulbs, unlike the old incandescents, cannot be recyled because they contain a small amount of mercury. When those CFL bulbs are dead, just bring them to a Home Depot Customer Service desk or IKEA to make sure they are taken care of properly. Good News- GE now sells a CFL bulb that looks like the old regular bulbs. It's called Energy Smart.

Reach for Reusable: One microfiber cloth can take the place of 60 rolls of paper towels before it needs to be replacing and is gentle enough to use on most surfaces, including glass. Keep a few on hand to wipe counters, dust furniture, mirrors and clean anything glass. They can be machined washed, however, use of fabric softener is not recommended, and it's best to line-dry. They are very inexpensive to buy at most discount and dollar stores and flea markets.

Florida Retirement Communities Continuing Care Campus

Lake Ashton has joined with its sister community Vienna Square to offer its residents the security of a Continuing Care Campus. The term continuing care campus quite literally means seniors can enjoy a vibrant lifestyle while they’re active and independent and, should their health needs change, they can move within one campus or community to get the care they need.

Lake Ashton and Vienna Square are proud to offer active adult living featuring, single family homes, maintenance-free villas, independent living apartments, assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation services all in one beautiful campus.

The Continuing Care Campus located at Vienna Square is designed for those who like the idea of neighbors being an integral part of their lives. It’s for those who like sharing meals and recreating together…for those who take real comfort in knowing there are plenty of helping hands around…for those who want real community, real service, real security and real peace of mind.
